Why should you buy Local beef?

Farm to table beef taste better, it is less greasy, and you also know where your meat is coming from and what specifically has been injected into it. Buying local is better for your wallet, and it helps your local economy.

It is Healthier for your family:

I was not raised on local beef; my family bought our beef from big chain stores. I never knew the benefits to homegrown beef until Brad and I butchered one of our calves the first year. The first thing I noticed is that you do not have drain cooked ground beef. When you cook ground beef from a chain store for spaghetti or chili you must drain the grease off the meat. Homegrown beef you do not have to drain it. That is less grease that is going into your body.

The most important aspect, in my opinion, of buying local beef is you know 100% where your beef came from. You can get to know the farmer; you can get to know the practices for how they raise their beef. You 100% know what vaccines and medications have been given to that calf. You can know if that animal has ever been sick or injured. You know that your beef has not been injected with hormones, the packaged beef does not contain preservatives or chemicals.

Overall getting to know your local farmers is beneficial to your health and peace of mind. You can also take a tour of the farm/ranch, show your children how much work goes into their food. Knowing how much work it takes to produce your food gives you a greater application. In today’s world buying meat is easy, and we take that for granted.

It is better for your wallet:

It is strange to think that buying local can save you money. One way it is cheaper is that you do not have to pay tax on beef you buy from a farmer. Think about how much beef you need or the menu you cook at home and talk to your local farmers. See what they have to offer. Some farmers are licensed to sell their beef by the cut, like you would buy at a grocery store. Some farmers can only sell by the half or whole, meaning the calf/cow is butchered and the beef is split between 1 or 2 families. You need a lot of freezer space for half or whole beef. Really look at what you are needing to feed your family and what you can afford. Buying in Bulk (half or whole) drops the price per pound. You pay more money up front but in the end it is cheaper. Instead of paying $15lb of steak you pay $5 per pound.

Over all buying from your local farmer keeps more money in your wallet.

Helps your local Economy:

Buying beef from local farmer helps keep your money inside your community. Keeping the money in your community helps your schools, roads, community parks, tourism, and many other aspects. Shopping at chain stores takes 4 times the money away from your local community. We need to keep our money local to help our communities thrive.
